Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The dispute over the Dean’s post at MGM Medical College persisted on Saturday as Dr VP Pandey, who assumed the position on Friday, handed over charge to Dr Nilesh Dalal, superintendent of MTH Hospital, before going on a week-long leave. This move sparked contention with Dr Ashok Yadav, superintendent of MY Hospital, who had earlier raised objections with the Medical Education Minister.
Dr Yadav protested against Dr Pandey’s action of assuming dean’s role, which was based on a High Court order but lacked formal government approval or an official notification. Official sources confirmed that Dr Pandey transferred charge to Dr Dalal on Saturday morning. However, Dr Yadav refused to acknowledge Dr Dalal as the acting Dean. Instead, Dr Yadav continued to function as officiating dean, signing documents related to the All India student counselling process.
“The situation remains confusing for students and staff, with four different deans appointed in the past 15 days. Senior officials in Bhopal have remained silent, offering no clarification,” the sources added. The dispute originated following the retirement of Dr Sanjay Dixit as dean on November 30. Dr Dixit handed over charge to Dr Yadav, but this was challenged by Dr Pandey in court. On Thursday, the High Court directed that the charge be transferred to Dr Pandey, intensifying the standoff.
Medical Education Commissioner cuts the call
Medical Education Commissioner Tarun Rathi didn’t respond to the media query over the dean’s post and cut the call after listening to the question. Dr Pandey couldn’t be contacted.
“I worked as the officiating dean and signed the documents related to students’ counselling. I have the official charge of dean and I worked accordingly.’
