Dr. Indurani Jakhar |

Palghar, Maharashtra: Dr. Indurani Jakhar, the newly appointed and first woman Collector of Palghar district, has expressed her commitment to prioritizing education and health as key focus areas. Upon assuming office on Wednesday, she stated her dedication to the comprehensive development of the district and pledged to diligently work towards the completion of ongoing projects, honoring the trust placed in her by senior officials.

Dr. Jakhar, who previously served as the Commissioner of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation, officially took charge from Manoj Ranade, the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad. Immediately after assuming her responsibilities, she convened a meeting with all the heads of her departments to discuss critical issues facing the district.

Later in the afternoon, Dr. Jakhar addressed the local press, acknowledging the unique geographical diversity of Palghar, which encompasses coastal, urban, and hilly regions, each presenting its own set of challenges. She actively sought information from reporters regarding the various issues prevalent in these different zones.

The Collector assured the media that she would make every possible effort to ensure the timely completion of significant infrastructure projects currently underway in the district. These include the ambitious Vadhavan Port, the Reliance Textile Park, the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the Bullet Train project, and the Virar-Dahanu suburban four-laning initiative.

During the interaction, journalists brought to Dr. Jakhar’s attention the persistent challenges faced by the tribal population under the jurisdiction of the Dahanu and Jawhar project officer offices. They highlighted that despite expenditures on providing resources like flour mills and sewing machines aimed at improving their livelihoods and achieving economic stability, significant progress in their living standards has not been observed. Dr. Jakhar acknowledged these concerns and assured the reporters that she would look into the matter.

Addressing the issue of pollution emanating from the Tarapur MIDC, a matter of significant local concern, Dr. Jakhar announced her intention to organize a meeting involving the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and relevant officials to discuss and address the situation effectively.

With her focus firmly set on education, health, and the holistic development of Palghar, Dr. Indurani Jakhar’s appointment as the first woman Collector marks a significant chapter for the district. Her proactive approach and commitment to addressing key challenges have been met with optimism by local residents and officials alike.
