Palaniswami’s big statement on AIADMK and BJP alliance: shared government will not be formed after elections

Last week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah formally announced the electoral alliance with AIADMK at a joint press conference in Chennai. He had said that at the national level, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in Tamil Nadu, E.K. The election will be contested under the leadership of Palaniswami. However, now AIADMK General Secretary E.K. A big statement of Palaniswami has come out in which he has clarified that his party will not form a government with the Bharatiya Janata Party after the election.

What did Palaniswami say?

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Palaniswami said that if his alliance wins in the 2026 assembly elections, a coalition government will not be formed in Tamil Nadu. He also informed that there has been no special discussion between him and Amit Shah on this subject.

He said, “Union Minister Amit Shah never said that a joint government of AIADMK and BJP will be formed in Tamil Nadu. The media has incorrectly presented the statement.”

Target on media

Palaniswami urged the media to stop moving ‘tricks’ and should not be distorted by distorting the facts. He clarified that Amit Shah’s announcement was only that the alliance would win elections and the government would be formed, but this does not mean that it would be a common government.

AIADMK will not share power with BJP?

The AIADMK chief bluntly said that if his alliance wins the election, the BJP will not participate in the government. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the coalition at the center, while the leadership in the state (Palaniswami) will be in hand.

BJP’s response

Reacting to this statement of the AIADMK chief, BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit president Nayanar Nagendran said that Amit Shah and Palaniswami will take the final decision on the issue. He also said that the BJP’s central leadership is in constant communication to strengthen the alliance.

It is worth noting that in Tamil Nadu politics, it has been a tradition that Dravidian parties do electoral alliances with their colleagues, but do not partner in power.
