Pakistani actress, model, and TikTok sensation Jannat Mirza has found herself at the center of an online storm after a video surfaced in which she refused to comment on the growing tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

In a widely circulated clip, a journalist is seen asking Jannat for her opinion on the situation and about the Pakistani Army’s role, in light of the deadly attack that has intensified cross-border tensions.

In response, Jannat is seen making a ‘zip-your-mouth’ gesture, refusing to speak, and then walking away without addressing the question.

Soon after the video surfaced, a section of social media users criticised her for avoiding a topic of national and humanitarian importance. She was also slammed for not speaking in favour of Pakistani Army.

Some also stated that she fears that her Instagram account would be banned in India after which she’d a major chunk of followers and hence she chose to remain silent.

“Pakistani Celebrities are increasingly afraid of speaking on India’s Kashmir or support Pakistan Army because their YouTube/Instagram account could face a ban in India,” a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote.

Jannat, who enjoys over 20 million followers on TikTok and over 6 million on Instagram, is among Pakistan’s most popular online celebrities. However, she has not issued an official statement following the backlash.

The attack in Pahalgam, which occurred last month, has drawn international condemnation, with India blaming Pakistan-based terror groups for orchestrating the violence. A couple of days back, the social media accounts of Pakistani celebrities like Hania Aamir, Iqra Aziz, Mahira Khan and others were suspended in India.
