Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, who enjoys a massive fan base in India, has unexpectedly found herself at the center of an unusual social media storm. Following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Indian authorities rolled out a five-point action plan, which includes suspending the decades-old Indus Waters Treaty of 1960.
In a viral video that has sparked mixed reactions online, a group of Hania’s Indian fans were seen packing a box filled with water bottles, addressed to the actress in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
The label on the carton read, “To Hania Aamir. Rawal Pind. Punjab, Pakistan. From India.”
The video, seemingly meant to be humourous and made for meme purpose, caught attention due to the sensitive geopolitical context. While some netizens found the gesture playful, others criticised it for making light of a serious international issue, especially considering Pakistan’s heavy dependence on the Indus River system for agriculture and food production.
Hania condemns Pahalgam attack
Last week, Hania reacted to the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people, mostly tourists. She urged to choose humanity, stating that no matter where people come from, grief speaks the same language.
“Tragedy anywhere is a tragedy for all of us. My heart is with the innocent lives affected by the recent events. In pain, in grief, and in hope-we are one. When innocent lives are lost, the pain is not theirs alone-it belongs to all of us. No matter where we come from, grief speaks the same language. May we choose humanity, always,” Hania wrote on Instagram.
Hania’s fan following in India
Hania is one of the few Pakistani celebrities who continues to maintain strong goodwill across the border. She is known for her cheerful social media presence and love for Bollywood. Time and again, the actress has been vocal about her admiration for Indian cinema.
From recreating Deepika Padukone’s iconic Om Shanti Om look to dancing to popular Hindi songs, Hania often celebrates Bollywood online.
She also shares a friendly bond with several Indian artists, including rapper Badshah and singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh. Their repeated meet-ups abroad had even sparked dating rumours at one point, rumours which Badshah eventually put to rest by calling her a close friend.
Most recently, speculation around a possible collaboration between Hania and Diljit grew stronger when both posted pictures from what appeared to be the same filming location. Earlier this year, Hania was also spotted on stage with Diljit during one of his concerts in the UK.
Professionally, Hania’s latest Pakistani drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum received a warm response in India, becoming one of the most streamed Pakistani shows across the border.
