Champions Trophy 2025: Hosting the ICC tournament after 29 years was a huge burden for the Pakistan Cricket Board. The Pakistani board, which is facing the crisis, has lost about Rs 800 crore due to the host of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament final was held on 9 March, in which the Indian team defeated New Zealand to win the title.
Pakistan had dreamed that hosting this Champions Trophy would benefit from billions of rupees, but the opposite happened. The Pakistani board spent crores of rupees on improving the stadium for the tournament but eventually caused 85 percent loss.
Pakistan cricket lost Rs 799 crore
PCB spent around Rs 851 crore to hold matches at home ground. However, it earned only Rs 52 crore, causing a loss of about Rs 799 crore. This has also affected the players. To make up for this loss, PCB has drastically reduced the match fees of domestic players.
The Champions Trophy matches were held in three Pakistani places – Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi, while the Indian team played all their matches in Dubai. The final was also held in Dubai. The Pakistani board spent $ 58 million (about 504 crore Indian rupees) on renewal of three domestic stadiums.
The Pakistani team fell out in 5 days without winning any match.
This is more than 50 percent of the total budget of PCB. 40 million dollars (about 347 crore Indian rupees) were spent in preparation for the tournament. Even after spending so much, the PCB has made a profit of about Rs 52 crore. Meanwhile, he suffered about 85% of defeat in the tournament.
The Pakistan cricket team performed embarrassed in this Champions Trophy held at their home ground. This team was out in just 5 days without winning a single match. The team could not move forward in the group stage. Pakistan suffered defeat against New Zealand and India while the match against Bangladesh was canceled due to rain.
