Chenab River: After the Pahalgam terror attack, the time has come to teach Pakistan a lesson. India has already suspended the Indus Water Treaty and now the doors of the Bagihar and Salal dams built on the Chenab river have been closed. Due to which the water of Chenab river flowing towards Pakistan has stopped completely and the neighboring country may suffer heavy losses in kharif crops.
Only 2 feet of water in Chenab River
According to reports, a lot of water has accumulated in the mountains due to continuous rains for the last few days. During this time many gates of Salar Dam were opened, but now the government has completely stopped the water going towards Pakistan. Apart from this, the flow of Chenab river has reduced considerably after the closure of the gate of Bagihar Dam in Ramban.
Lack of water of Chenab River can adversely affect both agriculture and environment of Pakistan. According to the local people, the water level of the river which used to reach 25-30 feet earlier, is now barely 2 feet of water. Now the water has dried up.
Loss of crop in Pakistan!
The water of Chenab and other rivers, who entered Pakistan from India, is being stopped. After this, the Indus River System Authority of Islamabad (IRSA) Advisory Committee has expressed concern about this. IRSA says that this may lead to a shortage of 21 percent water in Pakistan at the beginning of the Kharif season, which can cause huge damage to crops.
If India and Pakistan strengthen their control over rivers flowing west and the current situation persists, Pakistan may face severe water shortage during the Kharif season. Pakistan is now monitoring water supply on a daily basis and if the flow of Chenab river continues to decrease, water shortage is expected to be around 7 percent by the end of the Kharif season.
