How did the attack? Passengers

In a conversation with BBC Urdu, an elderly passenger told that –

“Suddenly the sound of the blast came and then the firing started. Many people were injured. The attackers asked all the passengers to get down and threatened that they would be killed if they do not come down. They separated women and the elderly. We somehow escaped from there and later reached a safe place. ”

Attackers strategy

  • Army personnel were taken hostage after the bullets were over.
  • The passengers’ identity cards were being checked.
  • The security forces were separated and fryed with bullets.
  • The attackers were identity of the passengers-Sindhi, Punjabi, Baluchi and Pashtun were separating the people.

Another passenger Mehboob Hussain told the BBC –

“The attackers were shooting them after seeing the identity cards of the army and security forces. A person, who was the father of five daughters, was shot in front of me. “

A railway police officer also told that –

“The attackers were asking the passengers their castes and distributing them into groups. They were saying that if the government did not accept our demands, then they will not leave anyone alive. At one time, he also said that kill all the uniforms. ”

Claims to complete operation, 33 terrorists killed

Pakistani Army spokesman Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary and Information Minister Atta Tarar said in the official statement –

“We have successfully completed the operation and killed 33 terrorists.”

Pakistani Army official claim:

  • 440 passengers were in the train.
  • 21 passengers and 4 paramilitary personnel were killed.
  • All the remaining passengers were evacuated safely.

However, according to the BBC report, some passengers are still feared to be near the terrorists.

Who were the attackers? What were the intentions of the rebels?

“We have placed demands before the government. If not completed, we will not leave anyone. ” – Alleged statements of terrorists

Possible cause:

  • It is believed that Baloch rebel groups may be behind this attack, who have been struggling against the Government of Pakistan for a long time.
  • Having hijacking train passengers and attacking the army can become a serious challenge for Pakistan’s security system.

Is this a failure of Pakistan’s security policies?

  1. The Pakistani Army claims that the operation was successful, but many passengers were killed, which raises questions on their security system.
  2. The rebels hijacked the train, indicating that the control over terrorism has not been fully controlled.
  3. The separatist violence in Balochistan has increased over the years, which is a serious threat to Pakistan’s internal security.
