At least 28 people were killed and several others were injured in a sudden attack by six terrorists on Tuesday afternoon at a tourist destination known as Mini Switzerland near Pahalgam in South Kashmir. Most of the dead were tourists.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the loss of loved ones cannot be compensated by any amount, but the Jammu and Kashmir government announces assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased. Chief Minister Omar has announced a compensation of Rs 2-2 lakh for those seriously injured in the attack and Rs 1-1 lakh for those who were marginally injured.
