After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the famous tourist destination of Jammu and Kashmir, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman decided to leave her US-Peru visit in the middle. The Finance Ministry on Wednesday informed that the ministers are returning soon to live with their countrymen in this difficult and sad time.
India is discussing bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the US, and under the same objective, Finance Minister Sitharaman left for the US and Peru on his official visit on 20 April. In a post on social media platform X, the ministry said that Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, is leaving his visit. The ministry further said that she wants to stay with her people in this difficult time and become her support.
Posting on X, Nirmala Sitharaman said, “Heartbreaking news from Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. I do not have words for this painful incident. I strongly condemn this terror attack. I have deep condolences to the families of the victims and the families of the deceased. I pray for the injured persons to get well soon.” He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s words, saying, “Those who are behind this heinous act, will be punished severely. Their nefarious objective will never be successful. Our resolve to fight terrorism has become even stronger.”
The terrorist attack took place on Tuesday in the Sundar Basaran Valley near Pahalgam, where the terrorists came out of the dense forests and started firing indiscriminately at a group of unknown tourists. Initial intelligence reports indicate that Pakistan-based terrorist organization ‘The Resistance Front’ may be responsible for the attack, which is a part of Lashkar-e-Taiba. After the attack, security agencies have further tightened the security system in Jammu and Kashmir, high alerts have been issued, and deployment of soldiers at sensitive places has been increased.
