Pune: Over Half Of Punekars Paid Property Tax Online In FY 2024-25, Cheques/DD Second Most Preferred, Cash Least Favored | Anand Chaini

The residents of Pune choose the online mode for making payments for the property taxes to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). A majority of the citizens opted to pay the tax through the online mode, with the percentage of payments made via e-wallet and net banking exceeding 50%.

The civic body’s property tax department has generated a total of ₹2,365.31 crore in FY 2024-25. Out of this, most people have opted to make online payments—₹1,314.89 crore collected by the PMC through the online mode, around ₹286.66 crore through cash, and ₹763.77 crore through cheque/DD.

According to civic officials, online services were available on the website of the PMC and have also been made available through handheld devices.

Now, you can pay tax from mobile phone

“Earlier, citizens needed to visit PMC offices multiple times to pay their taxes, which was a task and a hassle sometimes. Now we have made various services available on cellphones. Any kind of documents and payments of taxes can be done through the online mode,” said the official.

The PMC has extended the deadline to pay property tax at discounted rates until June 30. The civic body has reintroduced a 40% tax discount for self-occupied properties. The discount was introduced in 1970 but was later scrapped in 2018-19 as no state government notified the act, and auditors of the central government declared the discount illegal. However, after complaints by citizens, the facility was restored in 2022-23. The PMC extended the dates so that taxpayers do not miss the benefits of the discount because they received the bills late. All those who pay their tax by the end of June will be eligible for relief.
