Mumbai: More than 500 senior citizen above the age of 70 years residing in Kandivali’s Lokhandwala Township were facilitated with Ayushman Bharat Health Card under a special drive launched by a social worker.
Subhash Halemani, a real estate agent and a social worker, residing in Lokhandwala Township of Kandivali (E) started organising camps in the last week of December to register senior citizens above 70 years of age for Ayushman Bharat Health Card. This government scheme secures the medical expense of senior citizens till Rs 5 lakh.
The locality’s citizen forum Lokhandwala Residents’ Association (LRA) has also joined hands for this noble cause. The initiative has held six camps in societies like Alica Nagar, Anita Nagar among others and have registered more than 500 people under this scheme. The camp to be held on January 12 will register senior citizens under the Senior Citizens card which can be used to avail concession on bus and train bookings.
Halemani said that he aims to cover all the senior citizens above the age of 70 years under this scheme and is planning to organise such camps in each society. “I noticed that nobody was holding such camps in Lokhandwala township therefore I decided to take the lead. Around five more camps are scheduled in the coming weeks,” said Halemani.
Shishir Vivekanand Shetty, founder of LRA, said, “Our organisation’s aim is to help the residents of Lokhandwala Township in every possible manner and we are ready to collaborate with any individual or organisation in this cause.”
