Bhopal: Over 10K Commuters Face Parking Problems In 10 No. Market Daily | FP Photo

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): More than 10,000 daily commuters in the state capital’s 10 no. market face severe parking issues, leading to regular traffic congestion in the area. Unlike other major commercial hubs such as New Market, MP Nagar and Bairagarh Market which have multilevel parking facilities, 10 no. market lacks adequate parking infrastructure. Currently, the market has only a small, old parking lot with a capacity for around 80 cars.

However, the situation has worsened as seven new small food stalls have encroached on the space, Anand Soni, president of 10 no. Market Association told the Free Press, “There are around 300 shops in the market, and each receives at least 30 customers daily. Nearly 80% of them use their own vehicles, yet they struggle to find parking space.”

Soni added that around six months ago, the association had raised the issue with Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) chairman Kishan Suryavanshi and Mayor Malti Rai. At that time, they were assured that a new multilevel parking facility would be built.

However, no progress has been made on the project so far. Ward 45 corporator Shikha Gohal confirmed that the issue was discussed in a council meeting and a location for the parking facility was identified.

However, there had been no progress since then.

Mayor Malti Rai, addressing the concerns, said that the multilevel parking project was planned under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. ”BMC is awaiting land acquisition permission from the collector’s office. As soon as the land is allotted, the construction will begin under the PPP model”, she assured.
