A few days ago, Shekhar Kapur had posted on X that Amazon Prime Video has edited his movie Bandit Queen, and his film is unrecognizable from what he had made. Now, the OTT platform has given a statement regarding the same, and they have denied the claims of Kapur.
According to Times Now, the spokesperson of the OTT platform in a statement said, “Prime Video has not made any edits to the version of the film Bandit Queen currently streaming on the service. The version available on Prime Video is the version provided by the film’s distributor, NH Studioz.”
Shekhar Kapur On Prime Video Editing His Film
During a conversation about the Netflix’s series Adolescence, Kapur posted about his movie being edited by Prime Video. He wrote, “I wonder @IAmSudhirMishra if OTT platforms would let me make #BanditQueen the way I made it years ago. The Bandit Queen on #AmazonPrime is unrecognisable from my film. Someone has cut it beyond recognition. And yet it carries my name as Director. And no one asked me! Are we lesser beings than Western Directors? Would they have the guts to cut a Chris Nolan film without his permission?”
Shekhar Kapur Questioned The OTT Platform For Editing Bandit Queen
He had further shared a long post about the ‘anguish’ a filmmaker and an editor go through during the editing of a film. He questioned the person who had edited the movie for OTT.
Kapur wrote, “Did you even think about the love we give for our art? Did you think about how Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s beautiful was affected as you so carelessly butchered the film? Or the performances in the film from actors? For you were not there when we shot the film in a punishing 50 degree heat.”
The filmmaker ended the note by questioning whether who cares about Indian filmmaker. He posted, “For we are Indian Film Makers .. so who cares?”
However, with Amazon Prime Video giving a statement about the whole scenario, we wonder what Shekhar Kapur has to say now.
