Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar inspects road concretisation work in Malad, directs action on safety lapses | X -@mybmc

Mumbai: During a surprise inspection of the road concretisation work on Thursday night, senior civic officials found that the chamber related to sewerage operations was left open, neglecting safety measures and risking lives.

Taking a serious note of it, the Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar instructed the officials to issue a notice to the concerned engineer and take strict action against the negligence.

Bangar inspected concretisation of roads in the Western suburbs such as Ramchandra Marg in Malad West, Parekh Gali in Kandivli West, and Mahavir Nagar Marg. During this visit, he observed the ongoing works on Dadi Seth Marg in Malad West, where, in addition to the concretisation work, the sewage cleaning work were also underway. However, Bangar noticed negligence concerning the chambers, which led to immediate instructions for corrective action.

He also instructed to compete the concretisation of ongoing roads before May 31. Bangar stressed the importance of micro-planning to establish clear completion deadlines for each road segment. Furthermore, he instructed that the work be completed from one end of the road to the other without leaving any part unfinished.

Bangar instructed to put necessary barricades at key locations to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent any disruption. Additionally, he directed that construction debris be managed properly to avoid it scattering around.

He conducted the slump and cone tests at the worksite, and the results were found to be satisfactory. Additionally, the team from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai conducted a ‘Cube Test’ for Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) samples at the laboratory on site.

The results of thes tests were also found to be within acceptable standards. “The roads where the concretisation work has been completed should have thermoplastic markings, zebra crossings, cat eyes, and yellow thermoplastic grid markings at intersections, said Bangar.
