Nawada, November 28 (HS) An oath taking ceremony was org.zed under the chairmanship of CDPO Jyoti Sinha on Thursday in the BRC auditorium of Narhat in Nawada district regarding the Child Marriage Free India Campaign. Under the aegis of Women and Child Development Corporation, Bihar (Social Welfare Department, Government of Bihar), other programs were org.zed along with the oath taking ceremony regarding the child marriage free campaign under the District Hub for Empowerment of Women scheme.
CDPO Jyoti Sinha said that it is very important to eliminate child marriage from the society. Child marriage is a leprosy of the society. Child marriage is a crime. Due to child marriage, children are unable to complete their studies, their health deteriorates, they have to face premature pregnancy, which even results in loss of life of mother and child. Any person who commits, participates in or arranges a child marriage can be punished with imprisonment of up to two years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. This includes parents, relatives, neighbours, priest, band seller, horse/chariot seller, sweet seller, confectioner, tent seller etc. Let us all together build a child marriage free India. Now this evil has no place in the society. Now is the time to eliminate this evil practice from the country.
Women supervisor Madhavi Kumari said that Just Rights for Children (JRC) Alliance, which is a nationwide network of more than 250 social org.zations, is engaged in eradicating this evil of child marriage. This alliance works to protect children and prevent crimes against them. JRC supports government efforts on child protection across India through awareness programs, research and training. It is time to stand up and ensure children’s right to be protected, kept happy and empowered in their lives. Together we can create a child marriage free India.
He said that the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006 is applicable across the country, under which it is a legal offense to marry girls below the age of 18 years and boys below the age of 21 years and for violating it, the punishment is two years in jail or There is a provision of a fine of Rs 1 lakh or both. On this occasion, more than 100 Anganwadi workers including female supervisor Madhavi Kumari, Poonam Rai took a pledge to end child marriage.
