Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The city crime branch managed to recover Rs 25 lakh for an online fraud victim, who was duped of Rs 1.04 crore by conmen on the pretext of doubling the money in 15 days through share market investment.

DCP (crime) Rajesh Tripathi said that a senior citizen had received a call from a woman named Ishani Mehta, who had introduced herself as chief investment officer of a company. She had told the complainant to invest money in the market through her company to get 100 per cent profit in 15 days.

Later, the complainant received a call from another person named Arjun HInduja, who untroduced himself as the director of the company. He opened the trading and demat accounts of the complainant, telling him to invest money. Initially, the complainant transferred Rs 5000.

Later, he transferred Rs 1.04 crore in a bank account given by the accused. The accused had also sent him a link of a mobile application. The complainant found that his invested money had increased to Rs 9 crore.

When he tried to withdraw the money, the accused told him to send more money as tax. A case was registered and during investigation, the crime branch managed to get Rs 25 lakh back for the complainant after withholding the transaction. Investigation is on to recover the remaining amount.

Rs 5.56 lakh returned to retired bank manager

In another case, Rs 5.56 lakh were returned to a retired bank manager who was duped of Rs 7.59 lakh by a conman on the pretext of investment in the share market. According to the crime branch officers, the complainant said that the conman had added his name to a social media group and received Rs 7.59 lakh from him on the pretext of investment.

After seeing the profit, the complainant tried to withdraw the money but the accused deleted the account and stopped talking to him on the phone. The crime branch officials are further investigating the case to recover the remaining amount.
