The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement the Panchang system of ‘one date, one festival’ from the year 2026, taking steps towards an important initiative. This will end the confusion and variation about the dates of fasting festivals across the state. On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this work is being done under the supervision of Kashi Scholar Council. The council has prepared the draft of this proposal, which will be handed over to the Chief Minister on 7 April.
Banaras based almanac will be standard
All religious fasting, festivals and holiday dates in the state will now be determined on the basis of authorized almanac published from Banaras. The consent of the major almanac and scholars of the state has also been received on this decision.
A similar almanac for the entire state
Till now, people used to see different dates of the same festival due to the inequality of dates in different almanacs. Especially there was confusion about festivals like Rakshabandhan, Janmashtami, Holi. But from 2026, the integrated almanac will be implemented on the occasion of Vikram Samvat 2083 in the state, so that all festivals will be celebrated on the same date in the whole of Uttar Pradesh.
Special team is preparing
For this project, a team of other experienced almanacs of the state along with scholars of Kashi has been formed. This team will accurately determine the census, dates, and festivals of the coming year so that the almanac is uniform and the public gets clear information.
Which festivals will be included?
This integrated almanac includes major festivals of Hinduism, which are prominent:
-
Chaitra Shukla Pratipada
-
