Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde shared festival greetings on the occasion of Gudi Padwa on social media. He shared a couple of posts in the Marathi language to wish the people of the state a happy festive. “Ubhara re gudi, soda manatali adhi (Raise the gudi, leave the flood of worries from your mind)”, Shinde wrote on X while quoting the words of late Varkari poet Bahinabai Chaudhari.

On Sunday, Shinde shared a beautiful poem penned by the female poet dedicated to the celebration. He remembered Bahinabai and reflected on one of her poems on the occasion of Gudi Padwa 2025.

“This is a recited poem in the form of an owee by Bahinabai Chaudhary in the classical Marathi language. Her words are the fragrant blossoms of Chaitra! It is heartwarming to wish you a happy Gudi Padwa in her own words”, he wrote further while wishing the people of Maharashtra on the festival day.

“Heartiest greetings to all my beloved brothers and sisters, farmers, and hardworking people on the auspicious occasion of Chaitri Gudi Padwa”, Shinde added.

Shinde at Thane temple’s Palkhi Sohala

Notably, Shinde is visiting the popular Shree Kopineshwar Mandir, a temple of Lord Shiva considered the temple patron god of Thane. She has joined the festive celebrations at the Thane temple. Visuals from the Palkhi Sohala attended by him have surfaced online.

On Gudi Padwa, he also mentioned about the government’s efforts to make the state prosperous. With a loud “Jai Maharashtra” slogan, the deputy CM wrote, “The Mahayuti government is working with full force to ensure that Maharashtra becomes prosperous and remains number one in the entire country. I am sure that Maharashtra’s economy will be worth one trillion dollars in the next five years. Because the foundation for this has been laid only two and a half years ago. Like the young leaves of Chaitra, Maharashtra’s economy is beginning to blossom again. There is no doubt that every Marathi step taken in this journey of Maharashtra will lead it to new heights of success (translated from Marathi)”.

Who was Bahinabai Chaudhari?

Bahinabai Chaudhari was a Khandeshi language language poet who became known for her works posthumously. She hailed from Jalgaon district.

While she didn’t receive formal education, she contributed to Marathi literature through verbal poetry. Bahinabai’s poems range on a wide range of themes of love, devotion, nature, and spirituality. She worshipped Pandharpur’s Pandurang and also described the Varkari yatra in her poems. Her works are referred to as ‘Bahinabaichi Gani (songs) and penned in a book published in 1952, which is after her demise. Born in 1880, she breathed her last in 1951.
