Noida, 26 November (Hindustan Reporter). U Mumba captain Sunil Kumar created history after securing a thrilling win against Bengaluru Bulls with the score of 34-32 at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Monday. Sunil Kumar equaled Fazal Atrachali’s record for most wins as captain in the history of Pro Kabaddi League, both players have 73 wins as captain.

After registering his name in the history books, Sunil said, “No, I was not thinking about the record before the game because I did not remember it. I only wanted to win for the team. It was important to win because teams like Jaipur Pink Panthers, Puneri Paltan and Telugu Titans are close to us in the points table. So, it was important to win. I never thought about equaling the record or anything like that.”

He also outlined his ambitions for the remaining matches of the season and expressed his desire to win a trophy for U Mumba.

Sunil said, “U Mumba has not won a trophy since the second season and has not been able to make it to the playoffs in the last 3-4 seasons. So, our aim is to qualify for U Mumba and win the trophy.”

The captain explained that his team has been performing well for the most part this season, and also talked about the areas on which they need to improve ahead of their next match against Telugu Titans.

He said, “It is a very good thing for the team that we are now in second place. However, the team’s performance in the first 35 minutes was impressive. We played well in that period, but after that we did not play that well. We are making the same mistakes every game. In the last five minutes of the match, the team is losing more points and the raiders are getting caught. The good thing is that Manjeet is now coming into his form. He made a super tackle and won the match by giving us two points.”

On his achievement, Sunil said, “I am happy with my record. Fazal is a senior player compared to me and has played in the league before me. After this victory, I have equaled his record as captain. So, I am really happy. I will keep trying and make sure the team wins matches and I keep playing well.”
