Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In the modified Parvati Kalisindh and Chambal river link project, the number of water bodies like dam and barrage has been increased to 21 from 17, said officials here on Wednesday. ACS water resources department Rajesh Rajora on Wednesday convened a hybrid meeting with the officials posted in field and officials at Vallabh Bhawan.

The Prime Minister is to lay the foundation stone of Parwati, Kalisindh and Chambal link project on December 17. The modified Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project was prepared and the work of Malwa region components will be carried out in the first phase. Earlier, the construction of components for irrigation and drinking water supply of the area was planned under Phase 2.

The Madhya Pradesh has formed the committee after various ministerial-level meetings to ensure sufficient water availability to the Malwa region for irrigation, drinking water, and industrial purposes in the first phase of the scheme itself. In the modified project, maximum use will be made of the water of Parvati, Kuno, Kalisindh, Chambal, Kshipra, and tributary rivers originating from Madhya Pradesh. The total cost of the projects to be constructed in Madhya Pradesh is proposed to be Rs 35 thousand crore.

Under the project, four dams in Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Irrigation Complex (Katila, Sonpur, Pava and Dhanwadi), two barrages (Shyampur, Nainagarh), two dams in Kumbhraj Complex (Kumbhraj-1 and Kumbhraj-2) and Ranjit Sagar, Lakhundar Barrage and seven dams in the upper Chambal basin (Sonchiri, Ramvasa, Bachera, Padunia, Sewarkhedi, Chitawad and Sikri Sultanpura) are included. Apart from this, the construction of small dams on the Chambal, Kshipra, and Gambhir rivers in the upstream of Gandhi Sagar Dam is also proposed.

Water requirement of 13 dists to be catered

Through this project, mainly 13 districts of the state, Morena, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Bhind, Sheopur, Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Dewas, and Rajgarh will be provided water for irrigation, drinking, fisheries and industrial purposes. The project will be completed in 5 years with the collaboration of state governments of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and the Centre government.
