India has achieved great success in the medical field. The country’s first indigenous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner has been prepared and will be established for investigation by 2025 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. This technique will reduce the cost of MRI scan by about 50 percent and India will get rid of dependence on foreign equipment.

Features of indigenous MRI machine –

Low cost – Its cost will be half of foreign MRI scanners, which will provide high quality medical facilities to the common people at low cost.

Revolution in the Health Services Sector – This technique will strengthen medical infrastructure in India and will help in spreading advanced facilities like MRI to more people.

One step towards self -reliant India – ICU, MRI and other medical equipment were imported from abroad till now but this MRI machine will strengthen the self -sufficient Bharat Abhiyan.

According to Dr. M. Srinivas, Director, AIIMS Delhi, “We have taken a big step by creating an indigenous MRI machine. This will not only reduce foreign dependence but will also make India self -sufficient in the field of medical equipment. By testing it in AIIMS, we will make it better so that it will live up to all standards.”

This MRI scanner has been developed by an organization called Sameer (Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research) operated under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between AIIMS-Delhi and Sameer. A 1.5 Tesla MRI machine will be installed in AIIMS-Delhi by October 2025. Its use will start on patients as soon as human testing is allowed. The central government is preparing guidelines for testing and verification of MRI scanners. This MRI machine will be used to scan soft tissues.
