On 20 October 1962, the armies of India and China faced each other. Exactly one month later, on 20 November, China announced a ceasefire and the war ended on 21 November 1962. In the one month long war, China had fielded more than 80 thousand soldiers compared to about 11-12 thousand soldiers of India. 1 thousand 383 Indian soldiers were martyred during the war. While 722 Chinese soldiers died.
In fact, under the illusion of the then popular slogan of India-China friendship, the Indian leadership did not expect an attack from China. Neither was India ready for this war nor did it prepare considering its seriousness. When China occupied some areas of India, in response Indian soldiers were sent to the front with half-baked preparation and without providing adequate weapons and facilities.
The Sino-Indian War is known for the battles fought in harsh natural conditions. In which most of the battles were fought at altitudes above 4250 meters (14,000 feet). This type of situation presented logistical and other logistical problems to both sides. Many soldiers from both sides sacrificed their lives while battling the extreme cold. Neither side used navies or air forces.
