Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The state government is likely to officially declare Madhav National Park in Shivpuri as a tiger reserve on March 10.
The date holds special importance as it marks the birth anniversary of former Union Minister Madhav Rao Scindia, father of Jyotiraditya Scindia.
To mark the occasion, two tigers from Panna and Pench Tiger Reserves will be relocated to the park on the day.
Madhav National Park, situated in Gwalior-Chambal belt – the fiefdom of Scindia family – has been awaiting this status upgrade for some time. People familiar with the development said that the government had planned to issue the notification earlier but the Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia preferred it to be announced on his father’s birth anniversary.
Sources said that forest officials of Panna and Pench are in the process of identifying the tigers to be shifted to the Madhav National Park. Notably, National Tiger Conservation Authority had given its nod to declare Madhav National Park as tiger reserve long ago. The issuance of notification from state government is now awaited.
