Nothing To Fear, State Keeping A Watch On HMPV: Principal Secretary Sandeep Yadav | PIxabay

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): After five cases of HMPV virus in India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) officials have taken the update from state health department officials on Monday. Madhya Pradesh Health department officials said that it is not the matter of fear in Madhya Pradesh.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has detected two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka. Both cases were identified through routine surveillance for multiple respiratory viral pathogens, as part of ICMR’s ongoing efforts to monitor respiratory illnesses across the country.

Principal secretary (Health) Sandeep Yadav, who attended the meeting through video conferencing informed Free Press, ‘It is routine virus as it attacks every year. So this year it is happening. In meeting with GoI officials, we have assured them that the state government is keeping a watch on the situation.’

A 3-month-old female infant was diagnosed with HMPV after being admitted to Baptist Hospital, Bengaluru with a history of bronchopneumonia. She has since been discharged. An 8-month-old male infant tested positive for HMPV on January 3, after being admitted to Baptist Hospital, Bengaluru with a history of bronchopneumonia. The infant is now recovering.

It is important to note that neither of the affected patients have any history of international travel. HMPV typically causes mild respiratory symptoms similar to common cold but can lead to severe complications in vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly and individuals with compromised immune systems. The virus is known to be more prevalent during winter and early spring and can sometimes result in pneumonia or exacerbate existing respiratory conditions.
