Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm Through UPI The rules will change from April 1 for those using. Recently, the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued instructions to remove the mobile numbers related to UPI from bank accounts, which have not been active for a long time. If your bank account is connected to a mobile number that is not active, it will be removed. After this, you may have trouble paying UPI.
That is why this decision was taken
The NPCI has taken this decision keeping in mind the increasing cyber crime cases every day. The National Payment Corporation says that the mobile numbers which are no longer in use, ie are not active, are causing technical problems in banking and UPI systems. If telecom operators have released these numbers in someone else’s name, it may increase the risk of fraud. The government’s job is to protect people and save them from fraud.
To pay UPI, it is very important to link the mobile number to the bank account. Mobile number is a means of identity while paying UPI. This means that whenever you pay, the mobile number ensures that the money is reaching the right person. If no number is active and has been allocated to another, the possibility that the payment will fail or will reach another’s account.
What to do?
If a mobile number is connected to any of your bank accounts that is no longer active or you have not recharged it for a long time, then you have to confirm your telecom service providers (Jio, Airtel, VI, BSNL) whether this number is active in your name or not. If the number is not active, you should activate it immediately or change the mobile number attached to your bank account.
Recently, NPCI has directed banks and UPI apps to update the list of deleted mobile numbers every week. This will ensure that the passive mobile numbers will be removed from the banking system after 1 April.
