No Helmet No Fuel Policy in UP: The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement a new policy to reduce road accidents and deaths. Now no helmet, no oil rule will be implemented in the state. Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh on January 8 directed officials and petrol pump owners of all districts not to provide oil to those buying petrol without helmets.
The policy will be implemented in all districts
- District Magistrates and Divisional Transport Commissioners of 75 districts of the state have been instructed to implement this policy immediately.
- While reviewing road safety measures, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that every year 25,000 to 26,000 people lose their lives in road accidents in the state.
- According to reports, those not wearing helmets have the highest death rate in two-wheeler accidents.
The initiative was started in Gautam Buddha Nagar in 2019.
The initiative was first launched in Gautam Buddha Nagar in 2019, but was not implemented at the statewide level. This time, the government aims to strictly enforce this rule across the state.
Special instructions for petrol pumps
- Petrol pump operators will be educated under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules, 1998.
- Instructions have been given to install ‘No Helmet No Fuel’ board.
- Large scale awareness campaigns will be conducted through social media, print and electronic media.
- Emphasis will be placed on presenting helmets as a life-saving device rather than simply a legal requirement.
Strict enforcement and review of the law
- Law enforcement agencies and the administration have been asked to review the implementation of the policy from time to time.
- Petrol pump personnel will have to refuse to give oil to people coming to buy petrol without helmets.
- Repeat violators will be reported to the authorities.
New initiative for road safety
The Department for Transport says the purpose of this policy is:
- To develop a sense of responsibility among drivers.
- To promote a culture of safe behavior on the road.
- To motivate the public to consider helmet as a life saving shield.
Need to improve road safety
Government figures show that most of the people who lose their lives in road accidents do not wear helmets. This policy will not only help in preventing road accidents but will also increase awareness about road safety in the state.
