A special anti-corruption court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of an executive engineer from the BMC’s K-East Ward, who has been booked for allegedly demanding a Rs 2 crore bribe.

Mandar Tari, who had been on the run, surrendered before the court on Thursday after his anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by the Bombay High Court. Following his surrender, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) took him into custody.

The case began with a complaint filed by Goldie Sood, who owns a property in Shahid Bhagat Singh Colony, JB Nagar. According to the complaint, Tari issued a notice to Sood, alleging unauthorised construction on the property. Later, Tari demanded Rs 2 crore to refrain from taking action against the alleged violation.

Sood approached the ACB for assistance, and with their guidance, he negotiated the bribe amount. It was agreed that Rs 75 lakh would be paid to Shahajada Shah and Prateek Vijay Pise, acting on Tari’s behalf. On August 7, the ACB arrested Shah and Pise during a sting operation, but Tari managed to evade capture at the time.

During its investigation, the ACB found out that Tari owns multiple properties, raising further questions about his financial dealings.
