Even after more than three weeks of a FIR being registered against the staff of Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner (NMMC) for negligence after a 6 year old boy fell into an open tank in a NMMC garden, no action has been taken. The parents of the boy approached NMMC Commissioner Kailash Shinde urging him to take proper action against the men responsible for the negligence.
On November 2, in a tragic incident that was reported at Vashi Sector-14 at the Gorakshanath Palve Garden, a 6-year-old boy identified as Siddharth Vishal Ugade fell into a water tank and drowned. While the father was taking a walk in the garden, the boy was playing hide and seek with other boys and suddenly went missing. After a thorough search, the father found him in the underground water tank that was kept open.
A FIR against the responsible staff of NMMC was filed for negligence by VAshi police but till date no action was taken. “NMMC is supposed to provide us the names of the officer responsible for this and we are awaiting the report from NMMC,” a police officer from Vashi police station said. The FIR was filed against the garden supervisor, contractor, security guard, and municipal officers.
On Tuesday, the father of the boy Vishal Ugade, along with advocate Yashpal Ohol, met Municipal Commissioner Kailas Shinde demanding strict action. “I have demanded strict action against the contractor, the divisional deputy commissioner, junior civil engineer, garden officer, assistant garden officer, and the garden superintendent. The tragic death of my innocent son has caused immeasurable loss to my family, which can never be compensated,” the father said.
Shinde said, “An inquiry has been set up in this matter and am awaiting the report. Once the report is ready, I will take action against the ones responsible.”
