A 50-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries to both legs after he fell between the platform and the train while alighting from the moving Vidarbha Express at Kalyan on Monday. The passenger has been identified as Ankush Hindola, 50, who works in the sanitation department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

The incident took place at Kalyan railway station at 8 PM when the Vidarbha Express arrived, and he fell while attempting to alight. GRP sources said that when the train was approaching Kalyan railway station, Hindola attempted to alight from the moving train, lost his balance, and fell into the gap between the train and the platform.

The GRP official said that passengers alerted the police after witnessing the fall. Subsequently, GRP personnel rushed to the spot, pulled him from the tracks, and took him to Rukhmani Bai Hospital. The doctor referred him to Sion Hospital, where surgery was performed.

Pandari Kande, Senior Police Inspector from Kalyan GRP, said, “Due to the fall on the tracks, both of his legs were severed after the train’s wheels ran over them. He was admitted to Sion Hospital and underwent surgery on his legs.”
