Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is organizing numerous events for the Marathi Language Preservation Fortnight.
As per a circular issued by the Marathi Language Department of the Maharashtra Government on December 31, 2024, the “Marathi Language Preservation Fortnight” is being celebrated from January 14 to January 28, 2025, across the state.
“This year, the celebration holds even greater enthusiasm as Marathi has been granted the status of a classical language,” said an official
In this regard, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will be having lectures from eminent personalities, opportunities will be provided for the officers and staff to showcase their love and talent for Marathi literature through competitive literary activities.
“The programs during this fortnight aim to promote and spread the rich classical Marathi language, as well as to encourage the maximum use of Marathi in official work” said the official.
The following events are planned includes, on Thursday, at 11 AM, a lecture on “Use of Proper Marathi in Government Work” will be held on the topic of “Office Remarks and Marathi Calligraphy” by Maharashtra Government’s retired Deputy Secretary, Mr. Vasant Chaudhary.ha
Likewise officers and staff of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation will be encouraged to display their poetic talent. A Self-Poetry Recitation Competition will be held on Monday, January 20, from 11 AM onwards.
To celebrate the pride of Marathi being declared a classical language, a lecture on “My Mother Tongue, Classical Marathi” will be delivered by renowned author and speaker Dr. Mahesh Keluskar on Tuesday, January 21.
The civic administration will be having a Reading Competition on the theme “The Biography/Autobiography That Moved Me” on Wednesday. ” Marathi literature includes a vast collection of biographies and autobiographies that offer a positive perspective on life. Keeping this in mind, the reading competition has been planned,” said the official
. Officers and staff will share brief insights from their favorite biographies/autobiographies and read selected excerpts from them, inspiring the audience to explore these books
This year marks the centenary of the famous Marathi writer Jaywant Dalvi, known for his stories, novels, plays, and essays. In his honor, a special program titled “Smarnakhuna: Jaywant Dalvi,” curated by renowned writer Dr. Nirmohi Phadke, will take place on Friday, at 4 PM. Actors Yogesh Kelkar and actress Vandana Gujare will perform a reading of Dalvi’s works.
On Tuesday, January 28, at 11 AM, a Speech Competition on the topic “The Future of Classical Marathi” will be organized for officers and staff.
“For participating in the various competitions, interested officers and staff should register their names with the Information and Public Relations Department by the office day before the respective competition date” said the official. .
