In a major crackdown on property tax defaulters, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has seized the properties of 128 defaulters who failed to clear their dues despite repeated notices. As a result of the action, 30 defaulters have paid their outstanding amounts, contributing a total of Rs 7.48 crore to the municipal treasury.

Property tax is the largest source of revenue for the NMMC, funding various civic amenities and infrastructure development in the city. To ensure effective tax collection, the Property Tax Department has been actively identifying defaulters and taking legal action against those who fail to respond to notices.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has been closely monitoring the recovery process. Under his directives, strict action was taken against non-compliant defaulters, including sealing properties. Among those affected, three defaulters from the Ameya Co-operative Housing Society ignored repeated notices, leading to their properties being locked and sealed.

As part of the intensified recovery efforts, the NMMC compiled a list of major defaulters owing over Rs1 lakh. Notices were issued to 8,000 such property owners, granting them a seven-day deadline to settle their dues. However, 128 defaulters failed to comply, resulting in the seizure of their properties, confirmed Deputy Municipal Commissioner Sharad Pawar.

In addition to property seizures, the NMMC has initiated the process of disconnecting water supply connections to defaulting housing societies. For persistent defaulters who continue to ignore payment notices, the municipal corporation has begun the process of auctioning off their properties to recover outstanding dues.

The NMMC has reiterated the importance of timely tax payments, emphasizing that property tax revenue is crucial for the city’s infrastructure and development. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has urged all property owners to clear their dues on time and avoid legal action. He also encouraged residents to contribute to the city’s growth by fulfilling their tax obligations and becoming responsible citizens of Navi Mumbai. For further inquiries and payments, property owners are urged to visit the NMMC’s official website or contact the Property Tax Department.
