Navi Mumbai: In a bid to enforce the plastic ban, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its inspection drives, leading to the seizure of 2.5 kg of banned plastic bags and the collection of Rs 10,000 in fines from businesses in Koparkhairane.

As part of this ongoing campaign, the flying squad of Zone 2 conducted an inspection on March 17 at Mahavir Falooda, a business in Sector 14, Koparkhairane. Officials found 1 kg of plastic bags stocked on the premises and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.

The next day, on March 18, another inspection was carried out at Friend Circle, a shop in the same locality. The shop was found using plastic bags, resulting in another ₹5,000 fine, along with the seizure of 1.5 kg of banned plastic.

NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has urged citizens to eliminate the use of plastic bags, emphasizing the environmental and health hazards they pose.

“People should adopt cloth bags as a sustainable alternative. The municipal corporation continues to conduct rigorous inspections to ensure compliance with plastic ban regulations,” a NMMC officer said.
