Navi Mumbai: The three-day tournament held from March 22 was organized by the NMMC Sports and Cultural Department. “The tournament offered a golden opportunity for sports lovers to witness top volleyball players from across Maharashtra in action,” said an official.

The tournament featured 16 men’s teams from Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburbs, Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Nashik, Dhule, Wardha, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Dharashiv, Latur, Satara, Sangli, Sambhajinagar, and Hingoli, along with 8 women’s teams from Mumbai, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Pune, Jalna, Amravati, Nashik, and Sambhajinagar.

During the inaugural ceremony, NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde highlighted the corporation’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure, stating that a committee of experts has been formed to develop facilities for both indigenous and international sports.

“For our athletes to excel at national and international levels, it is crucial to provide them with world-class facilities. This tournament serves as a platform for showcasing talent and promoting competitive sports in Navi Mumbai,” he said.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Joint Police Commissioner Sanjay Yenpure, Deputy Commissioner of Sports and Cultural Department Abhilasha Mhatre, Sports Officer Revappa Gurav, International Swimmer Shubham Vanmali, and Maharashtra Volleyball Association officials.

Addressing the audience, Joint Police Commissioner Sanjay Yenpure, a former national-level volleyball player, praised the efforts of young athletes who continue to engage in field sports.
