Over 40 sanitation workers participated in a large-scale clean-up operation following the Legends El Clasico international football match held at D.Y. Patil Stadium, Nerul on Sunday night. The special drive, conducted by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), resulted in the collection of approximately 1.5 tons of waste, primarily consisting of plastic bottles and dry waste, which was promptly transported to the waste management facility.

The clean-up, which began at 11pm and continued until 3am, was executed under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and Additional Municipal Commissioner Mr. Sunil Pawar, with on-ground supervision by Deputy Commissioner (Zone I) Dr. Ajay Gadade.

“This operation was meticulously planned keeping in mind the huge turnout for the match. Our goal was to ensure that the stadium surroundings were restored to cleanliness by morning,” said Dr. Gadade.

Supporting the drive were Sanitation Officer Arun Patil, Inspectors Milind Ambekar, Navnath Thombre, and Bhushan Sutar, along with a team of waste transport supervisors, managers, and sanitation workers. Senior officials Somanath Potre (Deputy Commissioner, Zone I) and Jayant Jawdekar (Assistant Commissioner, Nerul Ward) also played key roles in ensuring the operation’s success.

Local residents expressed satisfaction with the quick turnaround. “I was pleasantly surprised to see the roads completely clean during my morning walk. Kudos to the NMMC team for their swift response,” said a Nerul resident.
