Good News For Punekars: Nigdi To Chakan Metro DPR To Be Ready By Next Month | Twitter/ Murlidhar Mohol

In good news for Punekars traveling to Chakan MIDC, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a new metro line from Nigdi to Chakan has started and is expected to be finished by next month.

The proposed Nigdi to Chakan metro route spans a total distance of 42 km, connecting key areas such as Nigdi, Mukai Chowk, Wakad, Nashik Phata, Chakan, Ravet, Link Road, Bhosari, and Moshi. As per the report by ToI, the DPR for this stretch is expected to be ready by next month.

Following its preparation, the DPR will be submitted to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for approval, after which it will be forwarded to both state and central governments for further sanction. Currently, the metro route from Dapodi to PCMC is operational, while the PCMC to Nigdi section is still under construction.

3 years of Pune Metro

Earlier this month, Pune Metro celebrated its third anniversary, marking a significant milestone in transforming urban mobility in Pune. Since its inaugural run on March 6, 2022, Pune Metro has expanded its network, enhancing connectivity and providing fast, efficient, and eco-friendly transit. Since the launch, Pune Metro has witnessed remarkable growth in ridership.

Initially, the monthly average ridership from March 2022 to July 2023 was 126,339. By March 2025, the total ridership had reached an impressive 59,876,743 passengers, with a revenue collection of ₹93,00,04,268. The daily average ridership stands at approximately 160,000, showcasing Pune Metro’s popularity among commuters.

Currently, it operates on PCMC to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi routes. To further enhance urban mobility in Pune, several expansion projects are underway.
