Mahakumbh 2025: The Uttar Pradesh government imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 for open defecation in Prayagraj Mahakumbh. A petition demanded to impose a fine of Rs 10 crore in the National Green Tribunal was heard. The NGT expressed displeasure with the UP government and said that this is your responsibility, you should pay immediate attention to it. There is no response from the UP government so far. The tribunal has currently reserved its decision in the matter.

The Uttar Pradesh government told the NGT that we have already prepared in this matter. We will present its report. On behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government, the UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) said that we have taken necessary steps in this matter.

The NGT has reserved its decision by directing the UP government to take serious action in this matter and said that we will issue our detailed order later.

The petitioners appealed to the NGT that officials claim that they have constructed state -of -the -art bio -toilets for disposal of human waste in Mahakumbh Nagar. But due to lack of these facilities and lack of cleanliness, many people are forced to defecate in the open on the banks of the Ganges river.

UP government fined 10 crores

Millions of devotees and their families are defecating in the open due to lack of adequate facilities. There is a need to increase the number of bio-hallmarks to solve this problem. It is also advisable to take special care of its proper cleaning and maintenance. The Uttar Pradesh government was fined Rs 100,000 for failing to provide sanitation facilities. A petition was filed before the NGT demanding a fine of Rs 10 crore.
