New Zealand has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match One Day International series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. The second match played between the two teams today at Seddon Park in Hamilton was reduced to 37-37 overs due to rain. In this match, Sri Lankan spinner Mahish Teekshana made the record of the first international hat-trick of 2025 by taking a hat-trick.
Teekshana’s hat-trick
Tikshana completed his hat-trick by dismissing New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith and Matt Henry. Took the wickets of Santner and Smith on the last two balls of the 34th over, while Henry was dismissed on the first ball of the next over. He has become the seventh bowler for Sri Lanka to take a hat-trick in One Day International.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first. New Zealand scored 255 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 37 overs. Rachin Ravindra scored 79 runs on 63 balls, while Mark Chapman scored 62 runs on 52 balls. Apart from this, Darrell Mitchell scored 38 runs in 38 balls.
For Sri Lanka, Teekshana took 4 wickets for 44 runs in 8 overs. He also took the wicket of Chapman. Wanindu Hasaranga took 2 wickets and Asita Fernando and Ishan Malinga took 1 wicket each.

In reply, the Sri Lankan team was all out for 142 runs in 30.2 overs. Kamindu Mendis played an inning of 64 runs, but he did not get any support from the other end. New Zealand’s William O’Rourke took 3 wickets, while Jacob Duffy took 2 wickets.
Rachin Ravindra was adjudged player of the match for his brilliant innings. Former Sri Lankan cricketers Chaminda Vaas, Lasith Malinga, Farveez Maharoof, Thisara Perera, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Shehan Madhushanka have already taken hat-tricks in ODI Internationals, and now Mahish Theekshana’s name has also been added to the list.
