Nashik: New Tender Process To Be Conducted To Help NMC Resolve Parking Issue | File Photo
Keeping in mind the failure to manage parking slots through a specific company, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to address the parking issue independently, instead of relying on Smart City, as a matter of urgency.
A new tender process will be conducted for 33 smart parking lots, including 28 on-street and five off-street parking slots. Commissioner Manisha Khatri held a meeting with officials from Smart City and the Municipal Corporation to tackle the growing number of vehicles in the city and the resulting parking challenges.
Smart City Chief Executive Officer Sumant More and Additional Commissioner Pradeep Chaudhary were also present.
The company initially created 28 on-street and five off-street parking slots in the city. However, during the lockdown in the Covid-19 period, the contractor requested an increase in rates. Since the Smart City company refused, the parking lots remained unused. It has now been decided to issue a fresh tender to resolve the parking issue.
A new tender will be issued for the parking slots with approval from the Commissioner of Police. The parking rates will be determined after obtaining police permission, ensuring that they remain affordable for citizens. The NMC will oversee the parking slot process, providing parking for nearly 6,000 two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
“On-street and off-street parking will be started in the city. With the permission of the police, we will fix the rates and carry out the tender process,” said Pradeep Chaudhary, Additional Commissioner, NMC.
