New start in Tamil Nadu politics: BJP and AIADMK again together, announced to contest 2026 assembly elections together

A major change has come to light in Tamil Nadu politics. After walking on different paths for almost two years, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and AIADMK have once again joined hands. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while announcing this new alliance on Friday, clarified that the 2026 assembly election of AIADMK chief Edappadi in the state. Will be fought under the leadership of Palaniswami.

Shah said that at the national level Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the face of the alliance, while Palaniswami will lead in Tamil Nadu. He described this alliance as a new beginning and an attempt for shared development for the state.

NDA will form majority government: Amit Shah

Amit Shah said in his statement that this alliance is based on Tamil Nadu’s shared view for prosperity, stability and development.
AIADMK chief Palaniswami also expressed happiness over the alliance and wrote on social media that his party is feeling proud to be a part of this partnership.

Shah also said that AIADMK has already been a part of NDA and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and late Jayalalithaa have also worked together at the national level.
He expressed confidence that the NDA will form the government with an overwhelming majority in the 2026 assembly elections.

DMK government made serious allegations

Amit Shah, the ruling party DMK and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s government was accused of corruption, law and order failure and atrocities on women-dalits.
They said that

  • Wine scam,
  • Sand mining scam,
  • Scams associated with the Department of Energy and Transport are tarnishing the state image.

Shah also alleged that DMK is raising sensitive topics like Sanatan Dharma, Tri -Language Policy and delimitation to distract the public from real issues.
He said that now the public is seeking answers and is preparing for change.

BJP will not interfere in internal matters of AIADMK

When reporters asked questions about the role of leaders like Panneerselvam and TTV Dinakaran, Amit Shah clarified that “BJP will not interfere in AIADMK’s internal affairs.”

He said that who will be included in the alliance, AIADMK and BJP’s state unit will be together.
If needed, a common minimum program will also be prepared so that the coordination between the two parties will be maintained.

Annamalai was not removed: Shah

State President K.K. The speculation of removing Annamalai was rejected by Amit Shah.
He clearly stated that “Annamalai is still the state president of BJP in Tamil Nadu. He has not been removed.”
