New and shocking information has come to light about New Orleans car ramming attacker Shamsud-Din Jabbar. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Sunday (January 5) released a chilling footage which was recorded by Jabbar using Meta smart glasses. It appears that Jabbar carried out a recce of Bourbon Street in the iconic French quarter of New Orleans prior to his attack that killed 14 people and injured 30 on New Year’s Day.

There are several clips in the video posted by the FBI. First one has Jabbar conducting reconnaissance of Bourbon Street in the French Quarter using Meta smart glasses. Jabbar himself is not visible but it can be ascertained that he is on a bicycle. The perspective changes as he moves his head to look in different directions.

Another clip in the same video shows Jabbar standing in front of a mirror. The FBI says in its post that at this time, he was trying to test the smart glasses and was checking if they were recording correctly.

Meta smart glasses are spectacles which the user can use to record what he/she is seeing. The glasses can even carry out online searches and a user can quickly gain information about what they are looking at.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar rammed his car into crowd celebrating New Year’s Day on Bourbon Street in early hours of January 1, 2025. Ten people were reported dead in the immediate aftermath. The death toll rose later. Thirty other people were injured in the attack.

Jabbar worked in US military for more than a decade and had got radicalised thereafter. Recent videos he posted online showed him declaring allegiance to terror group ISIS.

After he ploughed the car through the crowd, Jabbar was killed in a gunfight with security personnel.
