The construction of a four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) between Titwala and Khadavli railway stations on the Central Railway’s Mumbai Division is almost complete. It is likely to open for traffic soon.

“The project is being executed by Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (MRIDC), popularly known as MahaRail.

This ROB, a significant part of the Kalyan Ring Road, connects Ambivali to Kalyan via the famous Shree Siddhivinayak Ganesh Mandir at Titwala. The bridge is expected to be opened for public use shortly” said an official.

Spanning the main Kalyan–Igatpuri line of the Central Railway, the ROB will replace the existing level crossing gates.

According to MahaRail officials, this development will not only ensure smoother vehicular traffic but also significantly improve the punctuality of suburban train services.

Currently, the level crossing gates open and close over 25 times a day, delaying approximately 50 trains by 5 to 10 minutes each.

“The ROB spans 820 meters with four lanes and has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 100.06 crores. MahaRail has introduced a cutting-edge crash barrier integrated with stainless steel utility ducts.

This three-tier duct system ensures safe assembly, inspection, repair, and replacement of utilities like electric cables, while also enhancing the bridge’s aesthetics” said an official.

According to an official, the ROB will feature LED streetlights for improved night visibility and remotely controlled, theme-based decorative LED arches.

Additionally, a four-coat epoxy painting system enhances the visual appeal of the structure. Service roads on both sides of the bridge will provide added convenience for local commuters.

The removal of the existing level crossing gates, enabled by the completion of the ROB, is expected to provide significant relief to commuters by allowing uninterrupted traffic flow.

After the completion of the ROB (Road Over Bridge), the level crossing gates will be removed, allowing for free movement on the road and improving the punctuality of suburban trains.

According to sources, the level crossing gates currently shut and open more than 20 times a day, affecting the punctuality of nearly 30 suburban trains by 5-10 minutes daily.

“The ROB will enable citizens to reach their destinations faster and safer, eliminating the congestion caused by frequent gate closures,” said an official.

Despite the challenges posed by dense traffic in the area, MahaRail completed the project efficiently with innovative methods and strategic planning.

“We employed Digital Surface Models (DSM) and Digital Elevation Models (DEM) to accurately assess site features and elevations, ensuring smooth construction activities,” said an MRIDC official.

The ROB is set to address longstanding connectivity challenges for residents of Titwala, providing convenient access to major parts of the city and the bypass.

“This project will not only ease congestion but also promote safer and faster travel, contributing to the city’s overall infrastructure development,” the official added.
