New Delhi. Air India has made a big announcement for people fond of traveling abroad. Now Air India passengers will get new facilities to travel between 12 Indian cities and 26 European cities. For this, Air India has expanded the code sharing agreement with German airline Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Swiss International Airlines. This will provide more connectivity and easy transfer to passengers.
Air India’s new international partnership
Air India has announced that it has entered into a new code sharing agreement with Austrian Airlines. Also, existing agreements with Lufthansa and Swiss Airlines have been expanded. The advantage of this agreement will be that passengers will be able to avail the route of these foreign airlines by booking flights of Air India. This will make Europe and other international destinations even easier.
After this new agreement, the number of code sharing routes between Air India, Lufthansa and Swiss Airlines has increased from 55 to about 100.
Which new routes will be included?
Under the new code sharing agreement, passengers will be able to travel to 12 major cities of India and 26 cities of Europe.
Indian City: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi, Trivandrum, Lucknow, Jaipur.
European City: Vienna, Zurich, Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Dasseldorf, Stutgart, Geneva, Brussels, Prague, Washington DC, Toronto etc.
International flights of Air India will double
Air India plans to double its international flights over the next three years. Currently Air India operates 313 international flights annually. It will be doubled soon to strengthen the presence of Air India in the long distance international market.
Air India CCO (Chief Commercial Officer) Nipun Aggarwal said, “With this partnership our customers will be able to travel to more places in Europe with the flights of Lufthansa Group.”
Efforts to increase dominance in international market
The number of passengers traveling abroad from India is continuously increasing. In view of this, Indian airlines are also expanding their international network.
- Indian airlines have now increased to 46 percent in international air travel.
- In January-September 2024, Indian airlines carried 2.4 crore passengers.
- Air India (Tata Group) holds a 28 percent stake in the aviation market.
- More than 75 foreign airlines companies are also transporting passengers from India.
