New fastag rules: Rules related to fastag are going to be changed in the next few days, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has recently informed that from April 1, 2025, only fastag systems are being implemented at all toll plazas in Mumbai. The main objective behind this step is to streamlin the toll payment and reduce the traffic congestion at toll booths.
Changes in digital toll payment system are expected to speed up the toll transaction process. Note that those passing through toll plazas without fastag will have to pay double the toll amount. Double toll can be paid through cash, credit/debit card or UPI.
These people will get exemption
According to media reports, this rule does not apply to school buses, light motor vehicles and state transport buses. All these vehicles are exempted from fastag at five major places entering Mumbai, including toll plazas of Mulund West, Mulund East, Aeroli, Dahisar and Vashi. Note that the fastag system will be strictly implemented on major highways like Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Old Mumbai-Pune Highway and Mumbai-Nagpur Samriddhi Expressway.
Where to buy fastag?
Fastag can be purchased through Paytm, Amazon or any banking app or website. After buying a fastag, you will be able to easily recharge your fastag through any payment app including PhonePe, Google Pay, Amazon Pay.
In this case also double toll will be charged
Before using the fastag, you should also know that if your fastag becomes blacklist due to some reason and even if you recharge the fastag, it takes some time to update the status in your fastg.
Even if the status is not updated, the payment does not be deducted from the fastag and double the toll, so if your fastag is black listed, recharge the fastag before leaving the house so that the status is updated till it reaches the toll and you can avoid giving double toll.
