New Era of Manufacturing in India: The Government of India has announced to develop 12 industrial smart cities to strengthen the manufacturing sector and speed up industrial development. Land has been made available for these smart cities in 10 states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana. Under the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (NICDC), the construction work will begin from March next year, which is to be completed in three years.

Entrepreneurs will get these facilities in smart city

NICDC will develop these industrial smart cities under the “plug and play” facility, which will provide all the features related to manufacturing to entrepreneurs at one place.

  • Under the single-window system, entrepreneurs will not have to visit different offices for any type of government approval.
  • After getting approval, investors can directly start construction work on the plot as per their requirement.
  • Industrial land will be prepared in advance, saving investors from finding land, making land use changes or setting up industrial units.

Budget allocated from center of Rs 28,000 crore

NICDC CEO and MD Rajat Kumar Saini said that the central government has released a fund of Rs 28,000 crore for the development of these smart cities. As per the plan, construction agencies will be selected and work on it will start from March 2025.

Construction work will be completed in three years

The government aims to complete these industrial smart city projects within three years.

  • It will provide industrial environment with modern facilities to companies from India and abroad.
  • Manufacturing activities will accelerate and there will be large -scale employment generation.
  • These projects will produce more than 87,000 jobs in Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
  • More than 1 lakh people will get employment from this project in Gaya, Bihar.

In which states will industrial smart cities be built?

6 industrial smart cities will be developed under Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor:

  1. Hisar (Haryana)
  2. Rajpura, Patiala (Punjab)
  3. Agra and Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh)
  4. Khurpia (Uttarakhand)
  5. Gaya (Bihar)

Two projects of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor:
6. Dighi (Maharashtra)
7. Jodhpur-Pali Marwar (Rajasthan)

Other Industrial Corridor Projects:
8. Kopparthi and Orwakai (Andhra Pradesh)
9. Zahirabad (Telangana)
10. Pallakad (Kerala)

  • Aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO)
  • Food processing
  • Readymade garments
  • Engineering

2. Patiala-Rajpura (Punjab):

  • Electronics system design and manufacturing
  • Food and beverages
  • Metal products, pharmaceuticals, rubber and plastic
  • Clothing and garment industry

3. Agra (Uttar Pradesh):

  • Leather industry
  • Food processing
  • Medical equipment
  • Engineering and Electronics

4. Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh):

  • E-mobility-based automobile manufacture
  • Bicycle Manufacturing
