The election of the new mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be held on April 26. Suspense remains on your candidate. The current mayor has set April 26 as the date for the election.

Saurabh Bhardwaj, Urban Development Minister of Delhi Government and nominated member of MCD, said that it is necessary to conduct the election of Mayor in April. I think if the rules and regulations from the office of the Lieutenant Governor are followed, the election will be conducted peacefully. The AAP leader said that it is possible that the deputy mayor can be made the pro tem mayor and he can conduct the election of the mayor. After this the new mayor can conduct deputy mayor and other elections. Apart from this, on the election of the standing committee, the AAP leader said that the matter is still in the court and it is expected to be resolved soon.

Who will be your mayoral candidate?

The biggest question is whether Shaili Oberoi will become mayor again or not. Saurabh Bhardwaj said that I have no information about the new mayor candidate and the party will decide about the new mayor.

The old mayor and deputy mayor will remain in office till the election.

As per the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, every session of the corporation starts from 1st April and in the first meeting the mayor, deputy mayor and 6 members of the standing committee are elected. But due to an unexpected order in the corporation, the election of the standing committee could not be held this time. The current mayor and deputy mayor will continue in office until a new mayor is elected.

Conducting elections is the responsibility of the current mayor

It is the responsibility of the current mayor to decide the date of the mayoral election in the MCD. After this the file will be prepared and sent to the Delhi Government through the Commissioner and then to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. After this notification will be issued. The dates for nomination of councilors will be announced.
