The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has decided to start ‘B.Sc. Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology’ (B.Sc. MRIT) course. This new course in the Radiology department will make BHU the third medical college in the state, where this course will be conducted. Earlier this course was running in SGPGI and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Features of ‘B.Sc. MRIT’ course

  • Number of seats:
    • Initially there will be 15 seats.
    • In future it will be increased to 40 seats.
  • Duration:
    • The total duration of the course will be four years.
    • Three years academic and one year internship.
  • Ability:
    • At least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) in 12th.
  • admission process:
    • Admission will be through Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
  • Techniques taught:
    • Study of imaging techniques such as X-ray, CT scan, mammography, ultrasound, PET scan, and MRI.

Head of Radiology Department Prof. Amit Nandan Dhar Dwivedi told that efforts were being made for a long time to start this course.

Self-Finance Course

  • This will be a self-finance course.
  • Annual fees will be around ₹50,000-₹55,000 (pending final approval).
  • A total of 60 students will benefit from this course in four years.
  • The course will increase human resources in BHU.

New UG course in Radiotherapy: Diploma course will be closed

‘PG Diploma in Medical Technology Radiotherapy’ running in the Department of Radiotherapy and Radio Medicine of BHU will be discontinued. In its place, a new ‘B.Sc. Medical Technology in Radiotherapy’ course will be started.

Features of the new UG course:

  • Year of start:
    • The PG Diploma course, started in 2007, will now be discontinued.
  • Seats:
    • There will be 17 seats in the new course.
    • Of these, 2 seats will be reserved for foreign students.
  • Duration:
    • Total duration of the course is four years.
    • Three years academic and one year internship.
  • Ability:
    • Earlier admission was given to B.Sc students.
    • Now 12th (PCB) students will be able to apply.

Head of Radiotherapy Department, Prof. Sunil Chaudhary had proposed to start this UG course, which has now been approved by the Academic Council.
