Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra is being criticised on social media for calling construction work ’embarrassing’. She made the controversial comment during one of her recent interviews a few days back. Soon after the clip surfaced, netizens lashed out at Parineeti and called her out for the controversial comment.
During an interaction with Mashable middle East host Rannvijay Singha, the Chamkila actress was asked about her first job.
Rannvijay asked Parineeti if she had undertaken any part-time jobs while studying. He shared that he had worked as a construction worker in New York. To this, Parineeti responded by saying, “Oh fab…mine is not so embarrassing,” prompting Ranvijay to assert, “Well, mine isn’t embarrassing either.”
They both laughed and Parineeti later revealed, “I worked at two places in the UK while I was studying. In fact, sometimes, I used to skip college because of my job. I had to earn money. I worked at Manchester United at Old Trafford. I also worked at Primark in the Departmental store.”

Parineeti’s comment surfaced on Reddit and Reddit criticised her and said that construction job is not at all ’embarrassing’.
A user wrote, “Rasgulla kaat ke birthday manati thi but construction work is embarrassing awww so neta ji ki biwi coded.”
For those unversed, during the same interview, Parineeti also revealed that during her childhood, there were occasions when her father couldn’t afford a full birthday cake. Instead, he would buy a piece of rasgulla or rasmalai, which she would cut as a cake while celebrating with her family.
Another user commented, “She continues to put her foot in her mouth. she’s ridiculously unlikable.”
“She lacks talent, good looks, charm or even basic decency. And yet she is being talked about,” wrote another user.
“I don’t know who told her that construction is an embarrassing job. If anything, it’s one of the most accessible jobs amongst Indian Immigrants (especially Punjabi’s) within the West,” read another comment.
A section of users also called her ‘classist’. “It’s true that only poor people do this job in India, but it’s not at all embarrassing!! And definitely not do them. Any work that pays enough to fill your stomach is ever embarrassing. So please change your definition,” wrote a Reddit user.
