Bollywood star Akshay Kumar returned to the silver screens on Friday (April 18) with his latest film, Kesari Chapter 2, which shows the lesser-known story of what happened after the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film enjoyed decent occupancy in theatres from Friday morning itself, considering the Good Friday holiday, and the audience have now termed the film a “must watch spectacle”.
Kesari Chapter 2 also stars R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in lead roles. While Madhavan will be seen locking horns with Akshay in the pre-Independence courtroom drama, Ananya plays the latter’s protege.
Fans, who watched the morning show of Kesari Chapter 2, flooded social media with reviews, majority of which are highly positive. While some called it a “masterpiece”, others lauded Akshay and Madhavan’s screen presence and the gripping screenplay.
“Kesari2 has been seen! Blockbuster stuff! Solid assured storytelling! @akshaykumar in full form! Goosebump moments!! All departments top notch! Whatte BGM! Picture hit hai! (sic),” a user wrote on X.
“You may have heard many stories, but this is a storm. This is not just a film, it is an incomplete account… a call for justice (sic),” another fan wrote in Hindi.
“#KesariChapter2 is a powerful & emotionally charged film, this historical drama brings to life the tragic events of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre with heart-wrenching authenticity (sic),” one review read.
“Kesari Chapter 2 Is a Masterpiece (sic),” a user wrote, while another stated, “This film is must watch for every Indian.”
For those unversed, Kesari Chapter 2 is set in the aftermath of the gutwrenching Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919 when British officers open fired at the venue, killing hundreds of innocent men, women and children. The incident is termed as one of the darkest chapters in India’s history. The film shows Akshay Kumar essay the role of advocate C Sankaran Nair, who had sued the British government and had accused the Crown of ‘genocide’ post the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
A special screening of Kesari Chapter 2 was organised by the makers in Mumbai on Thursday night and it was attended by Akshay, Madhavan and Ananya, along with Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Kajol, Suhana Khan, Diana Penty, Veer Pahariya, Avneet Kaur, and others.
