What is ITP course and why is it special?

ITEP (Integrated Teacher Education Program) is a four-year graduate program, in which students can do BA-BAD, BSC-B.Ed and BCom-B.Ed course. This course will be mandatory to become a teacher from 2030 under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. After this, only ITEP degree holders will be eligible to become teachers in schools.

This course is being operated in many central and state universities and government colleges including IIT, NIT, RIE. It was notified by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

Benefits of ITEP course

  1. There is no need for B.Ed to become a teacher – after completing this course, there will be no need to separate B.ED or D.El.Ed.
  2. Time savings – While the current B.Ed scheme takes 5 years (3 years graduation + 2 years B.Ed), ITEP can be completed in just 4 years.
  3. Dual Degree-This program will get a B.Ed degree along with Bachelor’s degree (BA, BSC, BCom).
  4. Mandatory in the new recruitment process of teachers – After 2030, only ITEP degree holders will be recruited in government schools.

What are the subjects available under the Itep course?

  • BA-B.Ed (Economics, Political Science, History, Geography, Hindi, English etc.)
  • BSC-B.Ed (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology etc.)
  • BCom-B.Ed (Accounting, Business Management, Economics etc.)

ITEP mandatory since 2030

Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, a four -year Itep course has been made mandatory to become teachers in government schools since 2030. Although the two -year -old B.Ed will continue, it will be used for higher education. That is, the candidates who do B.Ed will be able to move towards academic career (post graduation, research and PhD) instead of teaching.
